TIE DYE : OUR FAVOURITE TIE DYE PATTERNS (with a bluboho twist)

tie-dye is an unpretentious medium. it forces you to accept the impossibility of perfection and encourages you to find delight in the unknown, since you can’t see what it is you’re creating until the end. we've put together a list of our favorite tie dye patterns and how we've used these unique dying processes to inspire some of our best-selling pieces. life's like the journey of tie dying — it’s always the mistakes that end up being the best part.

a centuries-old Japanese resistance dyeing technique of binding fabric in various ways before dyeing. to create areas that are not exposed to dye. after dyeing and removing the binding, the un-dyed areas then create the pattern.
the most important distinction is due to shibori’s handmade nature. being handmade means that there are always infinite variations within repetition, giving the pattern a liveliness.

our moonchild medallion collection is beautifully crafted with the shibori technique in mind. each medallion is uniquely made - no medallion is the same. at the center of each medallion, a round montanta blue sapphire glistens - varying in colour from piece to piece, making each truly one of a kind.
inspired by bursts of sunrays, this technique is lively, bright, inspiring, and easy to recreate on fabric. although it cannot be replicated exactly, each sunbeam piece is unique and inspiring.

our sunbeam collection is inspired by the sunbeam tie dyeing technique  -  a style of tie dye where the fabric is bunched together to create a burst of colour. it is handmade and can never be completely replicated, as the colour will bleed and vary slightly in each piece, just like our sapphires in the sunbeam pieces.

this technique is very unique in that ice chunks or cubes are actually used to achieve the desired look. sprinkling the dye on the ice and letting it melt into the fabric gives it a weathered look and the colours seem to be skittering across in a fragmented kaleidoscope way. As a result of using ice in this unique technique, a one-of-a-kind watercolour tie-dye effect is produced.
our something blu ring is iridescently beautiful and unique; skittering with light and different shades of blue.  ‘blu’ denotes our connection to the sea, the sky, to nature and to each other, a colour that captures life’s limitless possibilities, while ‘boho’—short for bohemian—celebrates our free-spirit, lust for life and for adventures.
