lessons from the lotus 2: new beginnings

“One always has to know when a stage comes to an end. If we insist on staying longer than the necessary time, we lose the happiness and the meaning of the other stages we have to go through. Closing cycles, shutting doors, ending chapters – whatever name we give it, what matters is to leave in the past the moments of life that have finished” - Paulo Coelho

A few months ago we shared a blog called, Lessons from the Lotus. We touched on the symbolization of the lotus for getting through the challenges in life and honoring our “mud” in order to grow. But the more we have learned about this mystical flower, we have realized that its really just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what the lotus represents. The lotus also embodies new beginnings. As we mindfully make our way through the ‘mud’ and come out on the other side, we are presented with a fresh start, some form of a new beginning. Whether you’re graduating from high school, finishing up college or university, moving to a new city, changing careers, or entering a new phase of your life, these times of transformation can seem frightening. So often when we are on the brink of a change or new beginning in life, many of us are paralyzed by our own fear - fear of failure, fear of not “looking good," fear of leaving the safety of our comfort zone behind. But all this fear does is hold us back from something that could be truly amazing and could take us to new heights. All it takes is the willingness to jump forward into the newness and put your whole self into it. And who knows where it could take you!

If we embrace our new beginnings, we can allow ourselves to grow and blossom, just like the lotus as it makes its way through the muddy waters in order to bloom into a beautiful flower. So whatever your new beginning may be, don’t be afraid to step into something new, wade into unknown waters, and let yourself shine. Wear your lotus to remind yourself to leave your fears behind and embrace new beginnings with wholeheartedness, confidence, and excitement!
